Volvo: well whaddayaknow!

This is interesting! Volvo is refusing to buy nuclear electricity, since it doesn’t coincide with the company’s environmental policies. Now how’s that for a kick in the nuts?

edit: and yeah, when I learn how to spell correctly I’ll also know how the word “coincide” is written.. and still I’m not sure it’s the actual word I really want. Ideas, anyone?

Kick-in-the-nuts indeed. I would judge this to be one of 10 all-time highs in most stupid behavior. Nuclear is the only realistic alternative if we want to reduce CO2. Clean and readily available. It makes me particularly sick that Volvo who produces our generation’s prime pollution source, the truck, enters the environmental race this way. Sick, sick, sick.

Well, I disagree – nuclear power is not nearly as “clean” as it’s been hyped up to be; quite on the contrary, the extraction and mining of uranium ore damages the earth in more ways than are visible by the huge scars left in the ground.

I find it somewhat comforting (which probably is the plan from start to end) that one of the great truck-companies decides that air and water are the way to go… maybe we’ll soon be seeing trucks with solar-panel covered roofs, electrical engines and hybrid – or even fuel cell – powered drive.

The future is not in splitting the atom. It never was!
